7th Dec campaigns hailed a success

Following our Shop Local Saturday campaign and the American Express sponsored Small Business Saturday which both encouraged people to use local businesses on 7th Dec, several news outlets are reporting that shoppers spent around Ā£450m with independent businesses on the day. We’d like to thank all the businesses and shoppers who took part, you’ve done yourselves proud! While we count this as a success the Shop Local campaign is not just about one day of the year. We have big plans for the coming 12 months, so as they say “watch this space” and we’ll announce more details as soon as we can.

  1. It was a great initiative. Made a little more poignant for us though as it was the last day of trading in our store in Covent Garden Piazza. We were driven to close by high overheads and the inexorable march of big brands being moved into the area by avaricious landlords. One of the greatest expenses being business rates which have nearly doubled in the 12 years we were there. There are now very few truly independent stores in Covent Garden and the same thing is happening in other locations such as Spitalfields, Carnaby Street and Burlington Arcade.
